Born and raised in Launceston, Sam began his career as a pharmacist after completing a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours at the University of Tasmania. He went on to serve as a Pharmacy Officer in the Australian Defence Force (Air Force), an experience that shaped his calm, structured approach to complex and time-critical care.
Sam later pursued medicine at the University of Newcastle, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 2021. He completed his internship and residency at the Launceston General Hospital, rotating through emergency medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and rural general practice. He is currently completing his General Practice training and has undertaken extended skills training in Urgent Care, equipping him well to lead a high-functioning urgent care service.
Clinically, Sam enjoys the breadth of general practice and urgent care, with a particular interest in mental health. He values team-based care, strong clinical governance, and building services that genuinely meet the needs of the communities they serve.
Sam is excited to relocate to Burnie with his family and is looking forward to building strong connections within the local community. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his young family, tending to an extensive vegetable garden, fishing, and playing golf – proof that not all directors live on coffee alone!
